I hear you Bernie about the negative connotation it’s been given. But just looking at the story of the Israelites wandering in the desert . . . man talk about some rich material regarding the inner journey as an adult. If I were to get hung up on all the pork laws, I’d miss the story’s relevance to Moses leadership travails, dealing with waiting, the human condition . . . there’s just so much. And then going to the New Testament, Paul sounds a little nuts to me . . . so, ok, I don’t have to take his words literally, I can look at his journey as something to learn from. I don’t have to argue with him just because he had a thing against homosexuals.

I completely agree with the tennant of reading the bible as myth, but it seems the term has taken a divergent definition in our culture. I’ve always given in to the negative conotation. We push aside anything deemed as a myth looking for fact. I never considered it before, but you’ve encouraged me to see myth in a new light- a positive one.

So true! Just like the Karla Bonoff song – “The same thing that makes your baby cry, will make him get up and go.” Or in the Sound of Music movie when the sister said to Julie Andrews – “When the good lord shuts a door, he opens a window.” I have learned that temporary setback or adversity are really opportunities to go in a new and better direction in your life.
